Introduction: Exploring the Gospel Project for Kids

First Baptist Church of Okemos welcomes you to Unit 27, Session 4: Jesus Returned to Heaven. In this exciting session, we delve into the teachings of Jesus Christ, exploring His ascension and glorious return to heaven.

Understanding the Importance of Jesus' Ascension

Jesus' ascension is a significant event in the Christian faith. It serves as a powerful reminder of His victory over sin and death, as well as the fulfillment of His purpose on earth. By returning to heaven, Jesus takes His rightful place at the right hand of God, interceding for His followers and preparing a place for us in eternity.

The Significance of Jesus' Return to Heaven

1. Jesus' Role as Our Advocate: Since His ascension, Jesus serves as our advocate and mediator before God. He understands our struggles, interceding on our behalf and offering forgiveness and grace to all who seek Him.

2. Preparation for His Second Coming: Jesus' return to heaven signifies His eventual second coming. As believers, we eagerly await His return when He will establish His eternal kingdom and bring forth justice, peace, and restoration.

The Journey of Jesus' Ascension

The ascension of Jesus is a remarkable event that took place forty days after His resurrection. As described in the Bible, Jesus gathered His disciples and led them to the Mount of Olives. There, He imparted His final words of wisdom and commissioned His followers to spread the Good News to all nations.

While the disciples were still in awe of His presence, Jesus lifted His hands and blessed them. As they looked on, He ascended into the heavens, gradually disappearing into a cloud. The disciples stood there, gazing into the sky until two angels appeared, assuring them of Jesus' eventual return.

Lessons from Jesus' Ascension

1. Trust in God's Plan: Jesus' ascension teaches us to trust in God's perfect plan. Though it may be challenging to comprehend, His departure was necessary for the Holy Spirit to be sent, empowering and guiding believers in carrying out His mission.

2. The Great Commission: Following Jesus' ascension, He left His disciples with the Great Commission. This divine mandate urges us to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is a call to share the love and teachings of Jesus with everyone, fulfilling His purpose for our lives.
